When LoHi SteakBar came onto the scene in 2009, it was one of the first restaurants to open in the emerging neighborhood of LoHi. Twelve years later, the hot spot remains a neighborhood favorite for both cocktails and dinner. LoHi SteakBar hits all the right notes with a polished vibe, craft cocktails, hand-cut steaks.

Taylor Drew

Executive Chef and Proprietor

Taylor Drew, an Arvada native, joined the Navy after high school as an aviation electronics technician. His experience in the military honed his aptitude for detail-oriented tasks, while also igniting a love of food through travel. On his first trip to Naples, Italy, he spent eight hours in one restaurant enthralled with the depth of the menu. After an honorable discharge in 2004, Drew turned to cooking and quickly found a job as a prep cook at Root Down. He went on to help open the Lobby in Ballpark before becoming a line cook under Frank Bonanno at Osteria Marco and Mizuna. Eventually he was promoted to executive chef at Russell’s Smokehouse and Green Russell. In 2014, Drew spread his wings beyond the Bonanno empire and, along with his childhood friend Joe Pettenger, became a partner in LoHi SteakBar.

Joe Pettenger

General Manager and Proprietor

Joe Pettenger grew up in Arvada and has spent 15 years in the restaurant industry. He got his start in the kitchen at Buffalo Wild Wings but he quickly realized his strength was in the front of the house. He moved to serving and bartending and after four years at the franchise, he helped Frank Bonanno open Osteria Marco in Larimer Square. He served and bartended at the pizzeria but Bonanno recognized Pettenger’s propensity for leadership and promoted him to lead server and shift supervisor. Pettenger then assumed the assistant general manager and wine buyer positions and eventually went on to spend five years as Osteria’s general manager. In 2010, he helped open Lou’s Food Bar and stayed on as general manager for a year before returning to Osteria Marco. In 2014, Pettenger and his childhood friend Taylor Drew become partners in LoHi SteakBar.
